Swift: Introduction to Dictionaries

Introduction to Dictionaries in Swift:

Before getting into actual coding, let’s have a brief introduction to dictionaries in Swift.

Data is frequently present in pairs. Every name in our phone’s contact list links to a phone number. When we go shopping for something, it has a price tag attached to it. So, we can find the definition of a word by looking it up in a dictionary.

A dictionary can use to find paired data in programming.

A dictionary is a collection of paired data. The paired data is known as a key-value pair, with a key serving as a unique identifier for their associated value.

Every entry in our phone’s contact list is a key-value pair. So, the key would be the contact’s name, and the value would be their associated phone number.

In this lesson, we’ll learn how to use dictionaries in Swift by creating, manipulating, and using them.

Helpful Tools:

Here are some useful tools to help you along your journey!

Setting up an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) can be difficult for beginners. The Online Compiler will enable you to run your code inside your browser without the need to install an IDE. If you need a more detailed explanation of a specific topic, the best place to find answers is in the Official Documentation.
